Camp Amazing, Revisited :)

I’m so busy right now. If that wasn’t obvious… I think this will probably be the first long post I’ve had in a while. And I’m not quite sure what it will be about… Hmmm…

Well, actually, I never wrote about camp. That will certainly take a while so it shall meet the requirements for a long post!

Camp was almost two months ago now, which is hard for me to believe. It feels like it was only a few weeks ago, honestly. I know that each year I go I come away with a new perspective on life and the camp in general, and this year was no exception. I was blessed so much. My campers (with the exception of one) were all so sweet and wonderful. In my cabin I had Meghan (6th grade), Danica (6th grade), Tate (6th grade), Alesha (6th grade), Rebecca (5th grade), and Mikayla (5th grade). My co-counselors were Christie (who was actually my counselor a few years ago!) and Arielle. And together we were TT3! Haha.

We were definitely a fun cabin. I think that’s mostly how I would describe us. Our girls were so full of energy that by the end of the week I was personally running on prayer, caffeine, and sugar. Another way of describing our cabin would come directly from the Mystery Cabin Inspectors. Our cabin was awarded the best cabin (meaning we were the cleanest, offered the most candy and creative games, and just basically rocked the inspections!). And as a reward for being the best cabin one of my life long camper dreams was fulfilled. Yes, that’s right. I actually got to be tossed into the lake in front of the entire camp, fully clothed, in the early morning on the last day!

It. was. amazing.

No seriously, I was so excited to be going in. My girls got to choose one of their counselors and I had been telling them all week how much I wanted to go in so when we were at the flagpole and the directors were telling the camp who had one they all jumped up and were like “Yeah! Danielle you get to go in!” I was so happy 😀

Anyways, a little more info about the camp. Here’s a typical schedule (for me, it’s slightly different for everyone):

6:40 AM- wake up, quiet time down by lake before day begins

7:45 AM- wake campers and co-counselors if needed

8:00 AM- head down to flag pole for morning announcements, camp clap, prayer before meal, etc.

8:15 AM- breakfast! It’s magically delicious! (hehe, bet you can’t tell what my cereal was….)

8:45 AM- worship, one of my favorite times.

9:30 AM- cabin Bible study

10:00 AM- field games for campers, staff meeting for counselors

11: 15 AM- cabin time before lunch- clean up, get ready for free time, etc.

12:00 PM- head down for lunch time flag pole meeting

12: 15 PM- lunch

12: 45 PM- head back to cabin to finish getting ready for water front/free time

1:00 PM- free time down at waterfront/crafts/volleyball, etc.

4:00 PM- showers, get ready for dinner, etc.

5:00 PM- flagpole meeting, and than it’s either dinner or before dinner game

6:00 PM- is either dinner or after dinner game

7:00 PM- most nights this is about the time that I personally went over to fireside to practice for drama skit rehearsals

7:30 PM- Drama Skit

7: 45 PM- fire side competitions

8:15 PM- Worship and Lesson

9:00 PM- head down to the lodge for dessert and night games

9:30 PM night games! Lighthouse, sardines, find the counselor, capture the flashlight, you name it 😀

10:30 PM- get ready for bed, etc.

11:00 PM- lights out (or at least be quiet!)

So that’s a typical schedule at camp. Which I personally think is pretty well rounded!

As I said before, all of my campers were really sweet. Meghan had such a heart to witness to her friends and to just worship with her everything. She would invent these hand motions and dances to go with the songs… it was truly great to see that, especially since worship is something that is so important to me.

Mikayala has an amazing singing voice! And she knows her songs. She has the lyrics perfect to practically every Hannah Montana and Jonas Brother song. And as a fellow Disney junkie (not really, but I could pass for one when I need too… :D) we totally had a blast together. I sang so much that week! It’s amazing that I didn’t lose my voice considering how much I was singing, laughing, talking, and basically having a good time! Our cabin kind of became known as the loud energetic (but fun!) cabin 😀

Rebecca was more quiet than Mikayla and shy at first; but than she became a riot. She’s hilarious and really sweet towards the other girls.

Tate was one of those that goes with the crowd and just has fun. It was cool to see as the week went on how she opened up to the other girls and started talking and participating more.

Ah, Danica. She’s my little me. In one of my videos she introduces herself as, “Danica, counselor.” to which Christie yells in the background, “Yeah, counselor wannabe!” It’s hilarious. I love Danica 😀

Which leaves Alesha. Let’s just say that she was difficult a lot of the time. There were things she would do that literally had the whole cabin frustrated, such as refusing to sleep without her light on (flashlight, there’s no electricity at camp except for in the staff lodge, dining hall, and main bathroom area) which was not a good thing. This is a very rustic camp and bugs were attracted like nobody’s business. And if we asked her to turn her light off she would start crying and saying how she couldn’t turn the light off because she was scared of the dark. We told her that the light was attracting the bugs which made her even more upset because than she was saying how she didn’t want the bugs to come near her either. The other girls would pipe up that it was ok, and that she didn’t need to be scared, etc. They were really quite sweet and extremely patient with her. Eventually she would fall asleep from exhaustion; but this was a repeated cycle almost every night. She was definitely trying…

All right, so me personally…

For me this year at camp was all about gracious serving. Being a counselor is such a different experience from being a camper. A whole lot more is expected of you, and yes, it is very hard work. The end result is so worth it though. I was able to have some great heart-to-hearts with my campers and see God work amazing things through them and me. It’s crazy how He used my experiences from this past year to specifically witness to them. Just goes to show you that He really does have a master plan thatyou have no control over, yet is totally perfect. It was a truly wonderful time.

These are just some random images from camp that I thought you might enjoy 😀 There’s some of my campers, my brother, my cousin, me, the camp, lake, my best friend and her cabin in a boat, etc. They’re awesome. Most of these I took, or one of my campers did if I’m in it 😀 A word to the wise: beware of letting your campers control you camera/video camera- randomness is sure to follow! Enjoy!

Tuesday’s With Jane

Vanity and pride are different things, though the words are often used synonymously. A person may be proud without being vain. Pride relates more to our opinion of ourselves; vanity, to what we would have others think of us.

I’m sure you’re all far too aware of what’s happening right now, but what do you think about the economy? I’d really like to hear your thoughts.

Tuesday’s With Jane

“Colonel Brandon alone, of all the party, heard her without being in raptures. He paid her only the compliment of attention; and she felt a respect for him on the occasion, which the others had reasonably forfeited by their shameless want of taste.”

Don’t Forget- Demi Lovato

Don’t forget

Did you forget
That I was even alive
Did you forget
Everything we ever had
Did you forget
Did you forget
About me

Did you regret (did you regret)
Ever standing by my side
Did you forget (did you forget)
What we were feeling inside
Now I’m left to forget
About us

But somewhere we went wrong
We were once so strong
Our love is like a song
You can’t forget it

So now I guess
This is where we have to stand
Did you regret
Ever holding my hand
Never again
Please don’t forget
Don’t forget

We had it all
We were just about to fall
Even more in love
Than we were before
I won’t forget
I won’t forget
About us

But somewhere we went wrong
We were once so strong
Our love is like a song
You can’t forget it

Somewhere we went wrong
We were once so strong
Our love is like a song
You can’t forget it
At all

And at last
All the pictures have been burned
And all the past
Is just a lesson that we’ve learned
I won’t forget
Please don’t forget us

Somewhere we went wrong
Our love is like a song
But you won’t sing along
You’ve forgotten
About us

I’m not in this (Thankfully!). I filmed instead…. but I think it’s completely awesome. And I edited out most of the immature material 😀
